Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) has several mechanisms of action that give it wide-ranging value to body structures and functions. It is a potent water-soluble antioxidant; it enhances the immune system; and it supports connective tissue formation.
Vitamin C is essential for the support of wound healing because it is a cofactor for the synthesis of collagen and other connective tissue components. Vitamin C is necessary for the action of the enzymes involved in phase I liver detoxification.
