How do the essential vitamins found in Immuplex support a healthy immune system?

Vitamin A is involved in many important aspects of the body’s normal function, including immune system health. Vitamin A supports the formation and differentiation of lymphocytes and helps initiate T-lymphocyte activity. Vitamin A also supports skin and mucosal cell integrity, which provides a barrier function to protect cells.

Adequate vitamin B6 intake is important to supporting healthy immune system function. Deficiency of vitamin B6, especially in the elderly, can impair the production of lymphocytes and interleukin-2, and this may be reversed with adequate intake of B6. Lymphocytes are immune cells, and interleukin-2 is a cytokine in the immune system that signals cells to maintain homeostasis.5Chronic stress has been shown to disrupt the homeostasis maintained by cytokines.

Both vitamin E and selenium are also important to the immune system and work together as antioxidant nutrients.8 Selenium has an important role in many selenoproteins that appear to support the body’s ability to resist physiological stress. Vitamin E in specific doses has been shown to support the T cell-mediated response known to decline in humans as aging occurs.

Healthy immune system response also relies on adequate zinc intake. Zinc is an essential nutrient and a required component in more than 300 enzymatic reactions in the body.

Vitamin C is an essential nutrient with two roles in the body that are critical to support a normal immune system response. First, cells depend upon adequate amounts of vitamin C to serve as an antioxidant during both normal metabolism and in the presence of an immune system response. Additionally, the formation of many critical biomolecules in the body relies on the availability of proper levels of vitamin C to participate as an enzyme cofactor.
